Winter Scenes

I was walking around the other day, in the snow with not much else to do but watch the dogs romp in the fluffy white stuff and chase squirrels. I stood out there for quite a few minutes thinking to myself "what a beautiful place this is even when covered in snow, maybe more so". Then I got the idea to take a few pictures and post them up here. Some good, some not so good. Just like days in life....

This is a Black Locust tree(s) out back. To tell the truth, I hate Black Locusts. They grow like weeds and have nasty thorns. But they are pretty and my favorite view is during the Winter when there's no leaves, looking up through the branches....

A look up the field... No, it's not a real windmill. I wish we did have a real one, but they're a bit expensive and so on. The small 'ornamental' ones are nice though....

A sleepy time for farm equipment...

More 'snoozen' goin on... There's the "new" plow in the background. The old one's sittin behind the post hole digger frame (the big red thing). Hard the judge in this pic, but the new one is better than twice the size of the old one...

And there's old Burt (our '53 Ferguson tractor) patiently waiting for the next snow fall. Update: He didn't have to wait long...

No it's not a close-up of an orange goin bad... It's a close-up of the Winter Sun! We actually got to see this once this year so far ;-) Mama surprised me with a telescope this past Christmas and this was the first chance I had to take a picture of the Sun. It's not good, but it is my first try and at least it does show some of the sun-spots that were visible that day. A great hobby. If only I had a camera hooked up the one night I got to see the moon....

Some may know that we got hit with a decent snow storm on March 5th or so. Once it was over, and the plowin and blowin was done, I ran out to take pictures. So I thought I'd share a bit here. This is a view of our grape arbor and water pump. Looks like we're gonna need a taller pump! ;-) We only got about 18 inches of snow so things weren't so bad, thanks to old 'Burt' and the snow blower... Oh, in case you're wonderin about the black & white photo... I'm getting back into my old hobby of photography and have always preferred B&W over color. I don't have my darkroom set up yet, so this is a scan of the negative. I suppose it's okay for the web site...
