The Kanatsiohareke Summer Festival 2001 was held on June 30 and July 1. Despite some rainy weather, it was a great event with lots of dancing, singing, vendors and food. I managed to only 'volunteer' to take pictures this time while Mama did real volunteering all weekend. Unfortunately, the rain hindered the photos more than the Festival itself... But we all had fun, ate too much, talked too much and got a bit wet ;-)

Below are photos of the general Festival and activities. Since I had the time and equipment for this Festival, the Dancers are on a separate page.

Entering the Festival from the parking area... Friendly folks always on hand to stop traffic for safe crossings!
A very rare site, Tom sitting down! He's usually so busy that it's hard to find him. But when you do, he's always happy for a little conversation and fun. I was lucky enough to catch him here and fortunate enough to spend some time with him.
Some of the great volunteers setting up the 'Silent Auction'. They'll kill me for adding this photo, but that's what happens when you make the mistake of posing for the camera ;-)
An item that went for a non-silent auction, an unbelievable beaded colar is being shown around just before it went up for bid.
Again, I took these early before too many people were there. This is the East side showing the vendors on the right and Circle on the left.
Our good friend Dan was here with some of his flutes and jewelry.
The vendors in the SE corner nearest the parking field. I spent a lot of time in that corner because oour friends Mike, Bill and Donna (from Silver Feather) were there with some incredible stuff.
In the NE corner, also some great stuff and wonderful people.
These are just wonderful people who make fantastic baskets, hats and other similar things. You won't find a better basket, or conversation ;-)
Here's a closer shot of some of their work. Amazing stuff and very reasonably priced!
The North side with more vendors and the stage. Our good friends Chester & Barb were up here with fantastic jewelry.
Chester at work and Barb talking, what they both do best ;-) (she'll kill me for that one). Chester makes the most beautiful jewelry I've ever seen, and am proud to own some of his work. It was easy to spend hours here between looking over his new work and the abundant conversation.
A small sampling of some of the incredible work by Chester.
Now here's a photo. The master's hand holding oneof his fine works of art. This incredible bolo tie is just beyond description.
Over in the NW corner, there was a completely new building where some great food was being served...
And down by the main building, fresh squeezed lemonaide and tickets for the rides.
Here, a group of happy people start their trip down to the boat ride on the Mohawk River.
Going in the opposite direction, a hay ride around the fields and beautiful scenery.
The horse & wagon ride through the fields is a lot of fun.
A view of the East field. There was a big joke about this time. The hay ride passes along that fence on the left side. If you look closely, you might be able to spot four birds sitting ont he fence posts. They are vultures! So we were kidding that they were waiting for the wagon to come by....
And here are a couple of them circling overhead. They are actually beautiful birds.
During one of the downpours, I couldn't resist taking a picture of these children having fun under this 'water fall'. There was a lot more water raining down on them than shows in the photo...
All through the weekend, Poncho entertained everyone with some great music. Tom even got him to sing some old Country Western songs...

Again, I have to appologise for the photos. I did come better prepared this time with my 'real' equipment, but the weather caused some problems for me and the festival. I also have some more to add and they'll be here soon... And don't forget to see the Dancers page!

I hope this at least gives an example of the Festival. Believe me, it was much better than these pictures make it out...
