The Kanatsiohareke Summer Festival 2000 was held on June 24-25. It was a great event with good music, dances, Native craft vendors and an incredible amount and variety of food. For those who couldn't attend, we have some pictures below. Some are before the Festival actually started and most are in the morning before things got crowded. These pictures could not possibly show what the Festival was actually like. To know that, you'd have to experience it for yourself. The people, food, conversations, food, friendship, food, speeches, food, music, food, dancing, vendors, and just being at Kanatsiohareke is something that has to be experience in person. Did I mention the great food? ;-)

Unfortunately, we were there to help out, so time was short for socializing, and taking pictures... But this will at least offer a glimpse of what was going on...

This was actually Friday when we arrived. They're just setting things up....
It's so pretty there when its not crowded... So is she!
;-)
The circle is used for ceremonies, presentations and the social dances.
Finally, things are set up and the vendors are in place by Saturday morning.
A view from the other side of the circle where most of the vendors were. Between the barn/stage and circle are covered picnic tables for the eating and watching the dances.
I didn't want to bother the vendors, but we know Bill and he let me take a picture. A sample of what was available! This is Bill Loran's booth. He can make some incredible things!
During the Festival, there were several dance competitions.
And who was the winner?
I wish I knew their names, but I was never good at names... They are good at dancing though!
And for a quiet time rest, a wagon ride up the hill... Ride or walk, there's a natural spring at the end of a beautiful trail.

I'm sorry I didn't do better with the pictures. We were pretty busy helping out, talking to old friends and making new ones! No pictures of all that great food? Well, to be honest, every time I got close enough to take a picture, I wound up putting down the camera and picking up a plate! ;-)

I hope this at least gives an example of the Festival. Believe me, it was much better than these pictures make it out...
