Summer Festival 2002

To get around our site, just click on one of the menu items on the left side of the screen. If you can't use frames, things may not work quite right, but you still should be able to get everywhere.

The Kanatsiohareke Summer Festival 2002 was held on June 29 and 30. There wasn't the rain of last year, but it was hot enough for most of us. It was again a great event with lots of dancing, singing, vendors and food. While Mama worked most of the weekend, I managed to get my photos, talk to a lot of people and eat a lot of food.

Below are photos of the general Festival and activities. I didn't do a separate photo layout of the dancers this time, and I apologise to them for that. This is more of a general overview of the festival. I also apologise for not knowing most names (or spellings). If anyone would like to fill in the blanks or make corrections, I would be more than happy to update things.

Early shots of the first day with not too many people here yet.
A real treat. Chester telling some stories and singing some songs. And he sounded great! Thank you Chester!
Roy Hurd with a great performance. If you don't own his CD's, go out and get them!
This could be a picture of me relaxing under the grape vines. But since I had the camera, it's a shot through the vines of Roy's performance.
Then Roy called Hennes up for a song. What a combo!
Sorry, didn't catch their name, but they sounded good.
More traditional music from the women's singers.
Yes, I do like sitting in the shade of the circle ;-)
Well, at least a few pics of the dancers.
Dancing isn't just for the 'Dancers'!
Well, she asked for it. Our friend Delia had to wave for this picture. I was hoping for a candid shot, but she caught me ;-)
Tired of waiting for corn bread? Make your own like Tom's doing here, and really enjoying himself!
Can't go to Kanatsiohareke without visiting their wonderful Craft Store.
Did I mention that Mama was working? ;-)
.
I couldn't offer pics of the Festival without showing the brand new little horse that decided to make his (her?) debut on Saturday morning. What a cute little fella, and proud mama.

That's it for now. It's hard to pic the pics for the web site after taking so many. And I really spent most of my time talking to old friends this time out. But this offeres a general view of what went on. Next year maybe I'll do a better 'job' ;-)
